About us

The Williams Fire Department was officially established in 1912, for more than a century the community was protected by dedicated volunteers. In 2023, the department underwent a transformative change with the hiring of a full-time fire chief. Currently, the department is staffed by 1 full-time fire chief, 1 full-time fire inspector, and a team of 30 volunteers. Operating out of three strategically located fire stations, the department covers an area of more than 48 square miles serving both the city and its surrounding communities. With a city population of approximately 3,500 residents Williams is the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon '' attracting over 500,000 tourists annually. With support from the city council, community, and volunteers the department maintains an impressive ISO rating of 4/4Y. Over the past three years, the department has averaged just under 200 calls per year, (excluding EMS). The WFD is an all-hazard agency and responds to traffic accidents, fires, and medical calls.
